Profile - Professor Nick Gerning
- MB BS, MD, FRCP
I carried out my initial medical training at University College Hospital
London. My senior house officer training was initially in London and in the
Yorkshire region. I obtained my London MD in the genetics of coronary
artery disease, with research interests in inflamation, infection and
coronary artery disease.
My general cardiology training was in Yorkshire. I undertook my
international / interventional Fellowship in the University of Alberta,
Canada. Following this I accepted my current post at the University
Hospital of Wales as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist.
I am the Clinical Lead for the Chest Pain Service for Cardiff
and Vale Trust and have led several projects on the primary - secondary care interface.
As an Interventional Cardiologist, I have led and introduced complex interventions in Wales, including the radial approach, rotational atherectomy, the use of lasers in cardiology interventions and various aspects dealing with Chronic Total Occlutions.
I am a world leading expert in vasculogenic erectile dysfunction and pioneered pudendal stenting to help patients suffering with erectile dysfunction. Over the last few years I have travelled around the world delivering educational talks and training to medical professionals.
As part of my private cardiology practice held at Spire Cardiff Hospital, I can offer patients a One Stop Shop chest pain service, from diagnosis to treatment and for patients with erectile dysfunction (ED) I can offer a One Stop Clinic (by prior arrangement) consultation and diagnosstic tests on the same day.
I also run a medical legal practice and was a medical expert in probably one of Britains highest profile cases in Interventional Cardiology.
I am the Network Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians and British Cardiovascular Society.
